Modern Supernatural
Setting
The Human World (mainly Chicago) and Umbra, which includes the Underworld, which is kind of like a purgatory where souls go to get judged and sorted by the Reaper. Souls continue on from the Underworld to either the Afterlife or back to earth as a reincarnation.
Plot
Still in development. But here's the basic, ever lasting conflict: The Grim (that's plural) were created by the Reaper to patrol the borders, keeping the worst of the supernatural in Umbra and making sure supernaturals already in the human world don't devour human souls. Their job technically isn't to keep humans save, so the Huntress took certain promising souls (after discussing their reincarnation with the Reaper) and gave them abilities at birth that would activate when the time was right for them. Once those abilities activated, they would officially become Slayers (their modern name), chosen to protect the human world from supernatural threats. We also have the Magus, a sort of magic council that polices the use of magic. I'm still working on antagonistic groups, but there will be a dozen or so very powerful supernaturals whose goals have yet to be decided... but they will be technically "evil" by most people's point of view.
What I'm Asking
That's a very brief description of the universe I'm creating. In short, I am doing my best to make this as creative and unique as possible and will also be urging people to make less stereotypical supernatural characters. I will be taking certain species and giving them a very limited, basic definition. It won't limit your character, it will actually add to it. If you are creative enough to take advantage of it.
I made this interest check to see how many people out there are willing to take an active role in this roleplay. By active, I mean they are willing to take important roles where plot-changing decisions can be made. Most characters who join this roleplay will probably end up fighting and character death will be a risk that everyone who participates will have. I'm not looking for passive roleplayers who will stand around waiting on the plot to progress itself, or who are too afraid of messing up the plot to actually do something to affect it.
I will tell you right now that I'm not at all worried about the plot changing. I don't care what the end result is, I just want to have a fun RP full of creative characters with actual flaws.
Players may make as many characters as they can keep up with, and everyone will get one chance to avoid death for their character, but character death is a risk in this roleplay.
A well-rounded character with an interesting mixture of flaws and strengths is a lot more interesting to roleplay than a character with none.
