LA Delta Hosts Legendary Coach in Black History Program

A legend will come to call this week at Louisiana Delta Community College as the school celebrates Black History Month with its Annual Black History program.

Influential coach Herman Boone will be the keynote speaker at this year's program, titled "At the Crossroads of Freedom and Equality: The Emancipation Proclamation and the March on Washington." The program is set for 11 a.m. on Monday, February 4 in LA Delta's Theater.

Boone is best known for his role as head coach of the T.C. Williams High School football team in Alexandria, Virginia in 1971. His story, and that of the changing times, is depicted in Disney's "Remember The Titans."

As speaker for the Black History program, Boone will address the issues he faced and overcame during a time when diversity was not the norm, and discuss his experiences as an advocate for self-respect, teamwork and community involvement.
